Clinical Cases
The varied and diverse caseload experienced by a ship's doctor
would be hard to come by in any other area of the profession. Faced
with daily challenges and unusual scenarios often in foreign
environments and under extreme pressure, our ships' doctors handle
both high profile incidents and back to basics medicine.
Routine conditions typically seen on a day-to-day basis can include
chest pain, respiratory and urinary infections, congestive cardiac
failure, fractures and minor accidents and
injuries that happen either onboard or ashore. Aside from the
stereotypical sea sickness and headache cases however, a ship's doctor
will also need to utilise all their clinical skills and training to
handle the more challenging and diverse cases.
